Biltong - the best meat snack you've never heard of
Some might call me a savory snack savant, a meatstick master, a jerky genius if you will. I've tried just about every jerky you can think of from the classic beef jerkies to the exotic animal meats to alternatives like mushroom and seitan jerky to salamis, Slim Jim's and everything in between.But my all-time favorite has been the South African biltong - it's what happened if prosciutto and beef jerky had a loving relationship and created a combo the world has never seen. It's thick cut slices of beef, cured with salt and spices and air-dried over 10 days (rather than dehydrated). That way you get a high protein snack that's still tender and doesn't have any preservatives or additives.And it's a super-snack that packs a punch. Every ounce of biltong has 60% more protein, 20% less calories and 70% less fat. There's a bunch of US brands that make decent biltong (Biltong Depot, Stryve, Kalahari) but the absolute best is Brooklyn Biltong and they have all sorts of flavors (believe me, I've tried every single brand).Try it out and let me know what you think.
